Safety and costs aspects
Due to the low temperature of the grinding operation, there is no need for a Hot Work Permit on offshore platforms. This can lead to cost savings through not having to shut down the platform.
Additionally there is no need for a fire-watcher (which is a requirement for hot work permits.)
No ignition sources as there are no sparks produced.
During grinding there is no dust or contamination from grinding steel, painted surfaces, rubber etc.
The noise level is not more then 83 dB(A) compared with a normal level which can be up to 120 to 125 dB(A) even with grinding hastelloy, stainless steel and other hard metals.
The equipment is light and easy to use. The same equipment can be used on wood, rubber, painted surfaces, and for removing fire proofing materials such as Chartek.
- Low Noise : Between 76 and 83 dbA
- Low Vibration : Around 6-7 hours use per day
- Low Dust : Particles are dense and settle around the work piece
- Low Temperature : No gases are released from paints or other coating
- No sharp debris
